Looking back 20 years, Billboard reported St. Germain as the top contemporary jazz artist for the year 2001, breaking a ten-year monopoly by Kenny G:

A 10-year reign comes to an end in the recap of the Top Contemporary Jazz Albums chart. For the first time since 1990, the No. 1 album is not by Kenny G. At the top of the list is French techno producer Ludovic Navarre, who recorded the album Tourist (Blue Note/ Capitol) under the name St. Germain. Based on the strength of this one album, St. Germain is the No. 1 contemporary jazz artist, followed by Rick Braun, Rachelle Ferrell and Boney James. That means another 10-year reign is broken, as Kenny G had been the No. 1 artist for every year from 1991 to 2000.
