]]> In his video introduction for the solo album What’s It All About, Pat Metheny shares the intimate backstory behind a deeply personal project recorded entirely at his home. Marking a major milestone as his first record to feature absolutely none of his own original compositions, the album is a collection of cherished songs from his childhood that he spent years casually playing during tour soundchecks. Metheny dives “under the hood” of these classic tracks to analyze their unique forms, such as his rendition of “The Sound of Silence” performed on a 42-string Pikasso guitar. He also reveals the secret to the album’s distinct texture: a unique baritone guitar tuning he learned as a teenager from a fellow musician in Missouri that mimics the layered voice of a string quartet. What’s It All About is available June 14, 2011.
