Mocean Worker, New Herb Alpert Remix, Jazzmatazz 4 News

Cinco de MoWo from Mocean WorkerMocean Worker returns with Cinco de MoWo on June 26. has the description. The site has details on who Mocean Worker is, the artists appearing on the new recording (including Marcus Miller and Herb Alpert), and states that the “songs pay homage to genres like late ’60s/early ’70s soul-jazz-funk, 30s big band swing and the Nuyorican soul sound he experienced firsthand in the late ’70s/early ’80s.” Excellent.

Speaking of Herb Alpert, a fully remastered edition of his 1979 release, Rise, came out this week. The new edition has two previously unreleased cuts, including a 2007 dance remix of “Aranjuez (Mon Amour).” Maybe this release will someday get the full remix treatment like last year’s fun Whipped Cream & Other Delights Rewhipped.

Jazzmatazz Vol. 4 The Hip Hop Jazz Messenger: Back to the Future from Guru is coming this summer. The 16-track recording has performances from David Sanborn, Caron Wheeler, Kem, Omar, and, on “State of Clarity,” Bob James and Common.
