8 from 1988 – Playlist Online!

Take a step into the past with these eight tracks from contemporary jazz releases that came out in the year 1988! Hear music from Kim Pensyl’s first series of sketches, Al Jarreau feeling so good, David Benoit taking every step along the way, and David Sanborn missing someone so far away. It’s one of a number of mixes I hope to be putting up on 8tracks in the future.

David Sanborn – “Winter Wonderland”

I don’t know of David Sanborn covering any Christmas songs before, though I know he composed a song titled “Rain on Christmas.” Decca has a new, expanded recording of Sanborn’s latest Here & Gone exclusively on Amazon. Jazz Videos on MTV

MTV is playing videos again! Online, at least at their newly launched mtvmusic.com. I checked it out and – whoa – there are over 100 videos in the jazz category. I wasn’t even expecting a jazz category. There are a lot of Kenny G and Norah Jones videos but also a number of 80s Warner Bros. videos from the likes of Al Jarreau, Bob James, David Sanborn, Michael Franks, George Benson, Quincy Jones, and Miles Davis. Seeing some of these again is kind of a kick. I bet you’ll find some surprises too.
